We were at the doctor's earlier this week for your 15 month check up. You are perfect, according to the doc. But then we already knew that, Babydoll.
As part of the visit, she asked me how many words you know, and I paused to think. I guess she mistook my pause for your not knowing many words. She asked "Does she know 'ball'?" Yes, of course, but you know lots of words. She said most kids this age know 3-5 words, with 2 of those being Mama and Dada.
Hmmm, I estimated that you knew more like 10-15 words. She was really impressed. And you were really talky through the appointment so she saw you in action too. At the end of the visit, she said that she could tell you were super communicative, and that was an early marker for future intelligence and learning. What a good report!
It's coming from all those books we read all day every day. You do love a good book- even a bad one- you aren't picky, really. So I thought I would write out a list of all the words I know that you know. I'm sure there are more that I'm forgetting. But it looks like it's more like 20 words that you know. Oh my!
- pup
- cat
- duck
- mama
- dada
- sissy
- cup
- moon
- done
- bye bye
- stay
- good girl
- car
- ball
- book
- bow
- baby
- teddy
- poop
- uh oh
- baaaaa (as in the sound a lamb makes- when you see a lamb)
- bee/ buzz (this one is new this week- we've been playing with a bee toy.)
One of the neighbors gave me a really good tip too. She said that when you started to learn "potty" type words, we should use "wee wee" to indicate a tinkle. That way when you learn to say "wee wee", we can teach you that the answer to the question "Do you speak French?" is also "wee wee". Everyone will think we have a bilingual baby, and of course Mama will have to buy you a little french beret for our little french girl! Ingenious!
